Skills You Need to Succeed in Cybersecurity

You need a mix of soft and technical skills to succeed in cybersecurity.

1. Soft Skills (Transferable Skills)
Problem-Solving: Think creatively to stop attacks.
Communication: Explain tech concepts simply.
Attention to Detail: Small mistakes can be costly.
Teamwork: Collaborate to protect systems.
Adaptability: Stay updated; the field evolves fast.
2. Technical Skills
Networking Basics: Understand IPs, DNS, and firewalls.
System Management: Manage Linux and Windows systems.
Threat Detection: Use tools like Wireshark and Nmap.
Scripting: Automate tasks with Python or Bash.

In cybersecurity, you need a mix of soft skills and technical know-how. Whether you’re building defenses or explaining risks, both are equally important. Keep learning, stay curious, and you’ll do great!

So I pitched an idea few months back and I was selected to participate in the Bootcamp. The Young Africa Innovates program sponsored by the UNDP in partnership with the Mastercard foundation. Today was day 1 and I learnt that I am a Brand and the way I empathize with others will tend to expose my brand. I learnt about designing solutions that are human-centered by putting myself in the shoes of my end users and solving the right problems for my end users.
